The Commission on Higher Education called a meeting on Historical Revisionism and other issues in the teaching of contemporary history last April 15, 2016. The meeting was presided by CHED Chair Patricia Licuanan and was attended by representatives from various social science groups that are members of the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC). Prof. Xiao Chua and Ms. Gemma Cruz Araneta represented the Philippine Historical Association in this meeting.
The meeting tackled the many reasons why there is forgetfulness in certain aspects of our contemporary history and resolved that there should be a forum that should clarify the assertion that the Marcos era was the golden age of the Philippines that would tap economic historians and other experts, although it cannot be done before the national elections which would be coming that May.
Also, modules in the higher education will be reviewed or can be created with respect to this era.
Some of the representatives asked the CHED to reconsider the previous decision to remove Philippine History from high school.
